As the festive season approaches, the Dawoodi Bohra community of Melbourne is pleased to contribute to the charity Hope City Mission in supporting vulnerable families facing the rising cost of living.
This year, the community donated toiletries and blankets to provide comfort and warmth to more than 50 families over the Christmas period. These essential items will assist families struggling to make ends meet, ensuring that their holiday season is a little brighter.
Hope City Mission has been a beacon of hope for individuals and families across Melbourne since 2004. Through its assessment-based Foodbank and material aid services, it provides emergency relief to those in need. Additionally, Hope City Mission empowers people with financial literacy programs, equipping them with the tools to manage money effectively, as well as advocacy services to help resolve immediate financial crises, giving families the support they need to move forward.
“We are proud to support Hope City Mission as part of our global community initiative, Project Rise,” said Mazahir Dahodwala, a representative of the Dawoodi Bohras of Melbourne. “Project Rise is all about addressing social challenges and helping those in need. By collaborating with wonderful organisations like Hope City Mission, we aim to bring comfort and hope to vulnerable families, especially during the festive season.”
Michael Sukkar MP, Federal Member for Deakin, shared: “It was an honour to deliver the 2024 Deakin Christmas Giving Tree donations to Hope City Mission today. I want to thank everyone in our community who generously donated a record amount of toys, food, household items and toiletries this year. Hope City Mission is working hard to distribute all of these goods, brightening the Christmas of many families in our local community.”
The Dawoodi Bohras are especially grateful to Michael Sukkar for hosting a collection point at his office. His unwavering commitment to community service ensures that essential items reach those who need them most. Since 2022, Mr. Sukkar has served as the Shadow Minister for Housing, NDIS, and Social Services, advocating for community values and addressing the ever-evolving challenges faced by families in the Deakin electorate. Every year, his office plays a pivotal role in supporting Hope City Mission by collecting toys, food, household items, and toiletries donated by the community.
