Welcome to the Dawoodi Bohra community of Melbourne

The Dawoodi Bohras community of Melbourne is made up of 200 families who have called this  garden city home since the early 1990s. A strong and closely-knit community, our members cherish being part of one of the world’s most livable cities in the world and contributing to its multicultural fabric.

Where we are

Our community centre can be found at 245 Canterbury Road, Blackbun. We often collaborate with the communities around us to join our events and invite passerbys to stop by and have a look around.
Many of our families live around greater Melbourne, from the bustling CBD to the Eastern suburbs of Dandenong, Vermont, Glen Waverley, and Point Cook. Whether enjoying the landscapes of Australia’s “Garden State,” walking along the Yarra River, or taking in the city’s vibrant arts and events, our members take great pride in connecting with Melbourne life. For many, the AFL Grand Final and the Melbourne Cup are annual fixtures eagerly attended.

Our story

The first Dawoodi Bohra families arrived in Melbourne more than three decades ago, many as students seeking educational and professional growth. Over time, they built stable roots, welcomed new families, and established a thriving presence. Today, the community spans first-, second-, and third-generation Australians, with members contributing to fields such as IT, management, academia, engineering, and business.

What we do

Encouraged by Melbourne’s innovation and diversity, members of our community work across a wide range of professions—entrepreneurs, engineers, educators, medical professionals, business owners, and public-sector employees.

Engaging with the wider community

Service and compassion are at the heart of all our values, with our members striving to make a positive impact towards Melbourne society by volunteering with local charities, food banks, and collaborating with interfaith organisations.
We regularly volunteer to address food insecurity, partnering with OzHarvest, donating dry rations during the month of Ramadan. In collaboration with local charities, our volunteers have also helped to deliver lunch boxes to children in need.
