The Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA) has partnered with the Dawoodi Bohras of Melbourne to provide critical support for mental well-being. This collaboration aims to combat the growing prevalence of mental illness and improve access to essential mental health services through MHFA’s peer-led support group program.
The support groups offer a compassionate, non-judgmental space where individuals facing mental health challenges connect, share experiences, and develop coping strategies. These groups serve not only as a service but as a lifeline—breaking the cycle of isolation, fostering meaningful connections, and encouraging active participation in the community.

Speaking on this partnership, Vasan Shrinivasan, CEO of Mental Health Foundation Australia said, “We’re grateful to the Dawoodi Bohra community, who are globally known for their social welfare and community service, for supporting MHFA’s Mental Health Support Groups Program this year. With their backing, MHFA can further strengthen this program, extending its reach and impact.”
“Together, we are fostering a culture of connection, compassion, and resilience, ensuring that no one has to navigate their mental health journey alone,” he added.
This joint program is part of the Dawoodi Bohra community’s ‘Project Rise’ initiative, which works with government and non-government organisations worldwide to improve access to healthcare, nutrition, education and environmental conservation.
“The Dawoodi Bohra community’s global commitment to improving mental health aligns seamlessly with MHFA’s nearly century-long mission. We’re confident that this collaboration will strengthen and amplify efforts to create a supportive, stigma-free environment for individuals navigating mental health challenges,” expressed Mustafa Poonawala, a member of the Dawoodi Bohra community in Melbourne.
Mental health is a universal concern, touching the lives of individuals from all walks of life. For the past 95 years, the Mental Health Foundation Australia, the nation’s oldest non-profit, non-government mental health organisation, has remained steadfast in its mission to provide critical support services that empower individuals to grow and thrive.
