Melbourne is home to a number of Dawoodi Bohra families hailing from India. In the spirit of inclusiveness and patriotism, the Dawoodi Bohra community of Melbourne celebrated India’s 73rd Independence Day on the 15th of August, 2019.
The event was held at the Consulate General of India in Melbourne’s Central Business District, led by the Acting Consul General, Mr. Raj Kumar. The Consulate welcomed all Indians, persons of Indian origin and friends of India to attend the function. The event commenced with the hoisting of the Indian tricolour, along with a rendition of the Indian national anthem. Mr. Raj Kumar addressed the gathering, providing a brief background on the historic events that led to India gaining independence in 1947, and extolling the virtues of the nation and its remarkable progress and development over the decades.
Representing the Dawoodi Bohra community at the event were the representative of His Holiness in Melbourne, Ibnemadyan Jamali and the Melbourne community’s members, who presented the Consul General with a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion.
