Hakimi Trust joins local charities in Sydney Upliftment Drive

Hornsby Advocate – Hornsby, NSW, Australia

Hundred of families across the community have donated food, toys, gifts and money to the Hakimi Trust’s Christmas Appeal.

The trust which is made up of dozens of Dawoodi Bohra community members from across the Hills and Hornsby, is collaborating with the Salvation Army this Christmas.

Hills resident and Hakimi Trust spokesman Murtaza Poonawala said there was still time for the wider community to get involved before volunteers delivered gift packs to the Salvos in Dural.

‘The Trust wanted to do something to assist and support families in tough times by collecting toys, clothes, electronics, gift cards, non-perishable food items and cash to be donated this Christmas,’ he said.

‘This will help us to make Christmas a festive season for the unfortunate people around the country.’

Mr Poonawala said the Hakimi Trust has supported several initiatives overseas.

‘But this year we wanted to turn the focus back in at home,’ he said.

‘The Salvation Army does an incredible job supporting those in need during Christmas, so we wanted to show our support on a local level.’

Karinya House posted its appreciation for the donations on its facebook page saying;

Wow! It has already been such an exciting morning for Karinya. We were in need of more baby gifts and Christmas treats for our families and we now have many!

These gifts were delivered by Insia Mustansir who lives in Canberra and her father, Zoeb Ferozpurwala visiting from Pakistan. They are connected with Hakimi Trust.

“Hakimi Trust is a registered charity in Australia and is based in Sydney. Its vision is to help underprivileged people and provide opportunities to them for a better life. During this holiday season Hakimi Trust aims to ‘give’ back to local communities across Australia and for Canberra we chose Karinya House due to their fantastic and warm care of local mums and bubs in need of care.” – Insia from Hakimi Trust.

These gifts will bring smiles to so many families! ?? Thank you so much Insia, Zoeb and Hakimi Trust.”
