The Holy month of Ramadan is a month of charity and goodwill. Like most Muslims around the world, the Dawoodi Bohras go to special lengths during this Holy month to extend a warm hand of compassion towards the less fortunate in society.
Community members in New Zealand have partnered with the Salvation Army food bank which is a Christian faith based charity dedicated to helping the less fortunate. This is the second time that the local jamaat Anjuman-e-Saifee has partnered with the Salvation Army. The first was during Christmas when the Dawoodi Bohra community kitchen specially prepared turkey roast meals which were distributed to those in need on Christmas Day.
Each week during the month of Ramadan, food donations are collected and handed over to the Salvation Army to distribute. The teachings of Islam emphasise compassion and harmony, with no better way to achieve both than by feeding the hungry of all faiths.
Anjuman-e-Saifee is dedicated to a long standing relationship with the Salvation Army in order to do good together.
